Writing a cover paper is important but not as difficult as it seems. You only have to write it in the correct format by keeping it highly professional and up to the standards. It introduces you to your professor, therefore should contain all the relevant information.
Following are the main elements required by a cover page :
- PAGE HEADER OR RUNNING HEAD
- TITLE OF PAPER
- NAME OF UNIVERSITY /INSTITUTE

THE RUNNING HEAD:
It needs to be left-aligned and capitalized. Also, add a maximum of 50 characters in your header.
THE TITLE:
The title should be very attractive and properly formatted. Always write it in the title heading. In simple words, write the first letter in capital. For example: “The Term Paper Cover Page Writing “. Further, don’t capitalize on the articles and prepositions like “a”, “the”, “is” etc.

You need to write the names in the proper format. If there are multiple authors, then mention all of them along with their university.
Tip: Don’t write anything extra in your cover paper. The only objective of writing is to introduce the reader to the topic and the authors. You don’t need to make it colorful and decorated by adding unnecessary pictures and colored text. Just keep it simple and professional.
TYPES OF COVER PAGES
Cover pages can be written in a number of formats. The most common among them are APA and MLA. These formats differ in their writing styles and formatting.
APA COVER PAGE
- The APA cover page starts with a running head which is always left-aligned on the top of the paper.
- Write the page number in the top right corner.
- The title should be written in the title case and should be placed in the upper half of your paper.
- The title should not exceed 12 words in length.
- The title should contain whole words only. No abbreviations or contradictions.
After writing the title in the first half of the page, write the name of the author(s) along with their affiliations. The name should contain first name, middle name, and last name. The educational qualifications of the authors should not be included on the cover page.
MLA COVER PAGE
If you’re using the MLA format, then you don’t need to write the cover page at all. However, sometimes your professor may ask you to include a cover page. That’s subjective!
Because a cover page makes the paper look highly professional and impactful, it is a good idea to include one for your term paper. For this purpose, include the name of the university, the title of your term paper, name of professor, name of the author, date of submission, etc. Your instructor may also ask you to include additional information.
- Use double spacing and place the letters in the center of the page.
- Write the name of the university first followed by the title of the paper.
- The rest of the details should be written at the bottom of the page.
That’s all about it. We hope it helps!
